Samoa Natural Products Trinitario Cacao Nibs
Organic Trinitario cacao nibs are a product created by Samoa Natural Products, a company that have been passionate about providing natural and organic product since 2011.
“Unspoiled by large country modernisation, we endeavour to share with the world our pure organic cocoa beans, grown on natural soil, tended by local family farmers. Unlike alot of other cocoa producing countries, Samoa does not have to deal with some of the social, political and ethical issues associated with cocoa farming and production, thus making our cocoa beans an excellent choice for chocolate producers around the world.” I was lucky enough to receive a 220g pack of their organic cacao nibs, and after hearing many positive comments I was very excited to try them. I won’t lie, I wasn’t originally the biggest fan of cacao nibs; the words floating around the internet such as ‘they taste just as good as chocolate’ had my hopes set high (and having the biggest sweet tooth in the world didn’t help..). After trying a couple of brands, and trying them in various recipes, my tastes have slowly developed and I could say that, in a totally non snooty way, I can appreciate a good nib over a bad one. |
I was so excited to receive my package from Samoa Naturals, and lets be honest, getting any type of package is totally exciting, but knowing that there is something potentially delicious and amazing inside adds to the hype.
On opening, the smell was absolutely amazing. Breathe in through your nose and your senses are filled with the smell of dark, rich chocolate that has a slight sweetness as well. Visually they are enticing, and they look like an organic, pure cacao nib should. After using them a few times, I really wish they were more finely ground. Cacao nibs are naturally fairly hard, and when they are as large as some of the ones in the pack, it can be a bit of a mission to eat. The smaller pieces are much more enjoyable to eat, and I feel as I would enjoy this product more if all of the nibs were of a smaller size. The flavour of the nibs is quite dark and rich; they are more on the bitter side and not as sweet as I expected, but the taste itself is really flavoursome. With the nibs being more on the bitter side, I prefer to combine them into recipes rather than using them, for example, in a trail mix. Aside from the size, Samoa Natural Products have created a beautiful, local to New Zealand, and high quality organic product with a dark and warmingly rich flavour x If you would like to try these cacao nibs for yourself, you can find them on the Samoa Natural Products here. |
